Book I'm reading: The Truths We Hold: An American Journey by Kamala Harris and Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance
The Truths We Hold and Hillbilly Elegy might not be my first choice, but I believe it is a good place to start to learn and be informed. Each one was read with a healthy level of skepticism. If you recall, I love to read memoirs and biographies. However, I was equally bored by both books. Research shows that our brains will strengthen a belief when presented with facts contradicting those beliefs. I remind myself of this bias when presented with information that doesn't fit my beliefs. I am better when I can be open-minded to learning more and willing to change a long-held belief when facts are presented. It is one of my greatest strengths.
Success Story: The Olympics and Paralympics
Need I say more? I loved all of it. It's one of those great reminders that we don't know and can't comprehend the life someone else has traveled. I started watching during the US Olympic Trials and followed many of the athletes on Instagram. Many rose to the occasion. Many found the talk in their head too loud to overcome.. I was cheering for all of them and crying with them in joy and defeat. Watching athletes from all over the world come together, compete, and hug afterward gives me hope for our future. We can do hard things!
Quote I'm meditating on: “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: It goes on.” —Robert Frost
Product I'm loving: Pura D'Or Organic Fractionated Coconut Oil
I have been using this coconut oil since the beginning of summer. I use it in my hair, face, and body. I no longer use products with multiple ingredients with names I can't pronounce. I think my skin and hair look great. It is light and gives my hair a nice shine. It also feels like it locks in moisture but doesn't clog my pores.
Music I'm dancing to: "Doin' Time" Lana Del Rey version
This song gets stuck on repeat in my brain no matter whose version I'm playing.
