My Friday Five. Five things I've been implementing and exploring this week.
Health idea I've implemented: A-Z Magnesium by Standard Process
Every cell in your body requires magnesium to work properly. Just a few of the amazing things it does is convert food to energy, help create new proteins from amino acids and help create and repair DNA. The best benefit I've seen is how much it relaxes my muscles. I've tried several brands and used to take Natural Vitality Calm on a daily basis. Calm is great at night because it made me incredibly relaxed. When I worked on cruise ships we'd make a "vodka calm" every night and pass out, but ship life is another story entirely! A-Z Mg relaxes my muscles, but doesn't make me sleepy.
Product I'm discovering: Maui Jim Polarized Sunglasses
I was visiting Fiji in the late 90's when I bought my first pair of Maui Jim's. I thought it was crazy to spend $50 on a pair of sunglasses. I was one of those people that bought my sunglasses at the checkout line at CVS. Little did I know I would spend a lot more than $50 on them in the US and should have bought several pair. In the past few months I've watched three friends have eye surgery. Some of those surgeries were due to excessive exposure to sunlight. It's a good reminder to make sure I protect my eyes. The salesperson in Fiji told me once I try polarized I would never be able to go back to unpolarized. She was right. I have a $400 pair of Bvlgari's that I rarely wear because they aren't polarized and I can tell the difference in the glare. I wear Oakley's when I work out and those work great too!

Book I'm reading: Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal by Anthony Williams
Several patients have been telling me to read this book for many months. This week I got a text that said I had to read Chapter 18 now! I hopped in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and listened. I listened for over an hour about the misdiagnosis of Lyme Disease and how modern therapy feeds the virus that you may truly be causing the symptoms. It’s always been curious to me that every patient that I see with a Lyme Disease diagnosis never remembers being bitten by a tick. The lack of being bitten is so prevalent that doctors are trying to explain it by saying mosquitos carry the bacteria. Anthony Williams has worked with numerous "Lyme Disease" patients with supplements and natural foods. Watch testimonial here. He said antibiotics actually feed the real problem and he is a proponent of daily celery juice to reduce leaks from the intestine. He is not a doctor and not beholden to the pharmaceutical industry. He doesn't sell anything, but promotes a healthy lifestyle to support your immune system and clear some mystery illnesses. It's worth a read if you are struggling with not feeling good and not finding a reason why.
Music I'm listening to: Cheap Sunglasses by ZZ Top
How could I write about cheap sunglasses and not have this song stuck in my head?
