Defending food, coffee and ice (and not just regular ice, but hyperice)
My Friday Five: Five things I've been implementing and exploring this week.
Health product I've implemented: Hypervolt by HyperIce
Chronic pain is often a result of some repetitive thing we do every day. It's usually the way we sleep, work, exercise and/or sit. I lecture people constantly about the position of their desk, chair and computer. I have not been taking my own advice and started having severe neck pain after setting up my new desk. I didn't use the OSHA checklist for designing a workspace and regret it. I was to the point where I couldn't turn my head the full range of motion and had constant pain. It was the kind of pain that was starting to affect my mood. I have no problem doing acupuncture on myself except into certain areas of my neck and back so I let this pain linger for too long. I had a Hypervolt last year and it helped a friend with plantar fasciitis in both heels. He used it to massage from his hips to his heels with great relief, but I had forgotten about it. The other day I walked into my parent's house and they had one sitting on the counter! I have so many great tools for helping people feel great I forget to use them on myself. I used the Hypervolt and received Fascial Stretch Therapy and my pain is gone. It takes less than five minutes to use this and get blood circulating. Now I have to remember I have it and use it regularly!
Product I'm discovering: Nespresso VertuoPlus
I have not perfected quitting coffee just yet. My food sensitivity test reveals I should not have any stimulants except for chicory coffee. Let's be honest, chicory coffee is not coffee nor delicious. Frogg Cafe serves a coffee with chicory and there are tons of people that love it. This is not me. If I'm on the run I will use my Nespresso Vertuo and make a quick cup. I like that the pods are 100% recyclable and the coffee has a lot of richness. My only issue is they have not offered an organic coffee bean yet.

Book I'm reading: In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto by Michael Pollan
I listened to In Defense of Food on Audible.com. I found it incredible that the sugar and prepared food industries almost shut down the FDA. The FDA recommended reducing the amount of sugar consumed in the food pyramid and those industries showed how powerful they are. They are still pushing their agendas by hiding the name of sugars, fats and other ingredients with the consent and help of the FDA. Lobbyists also pushed the blame to fat which is how we ended believing that fat was bad for us. Pollan's main point is "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.".
Music I'm listening to: Justo Agora by Adriana Calcanhotto
She sounds very sexy in her sadness and confusion. "Why now?".
