Book I'm reading: On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King

I have always wanted to be a great storyteller. I want to have people hanging on my words, waiting for the punch, feeling what I am leading them to, and watching them enjoy it. I cannot seem to learn this skill. I lack building suspense, timing, and bringing the humor. My brother-in-law is an excellent storyteller. I love when he shares the crazy things that happen to him. I take notes and try to learn. He keeps me on the edge of my seat and non stop laughing.

I listen to Ryan Gosling over and over sharing the story of his parents making him sell cellophane at school, his uncle being Elvis, or how he joined an all girl dance troupe. He is dry, descriptive, and hilarious. I want to learn this skill.

On Writing has been recommended to me several times. I finally started reading to it. It's part memoir and part masterclass in writing. He is even interesting when he talks about grammar. The core message is to read constantly, write every day, put your characters in a situation and let them dig their own way out instead of forcing the plot on them. Am I a better storyteller because of this book? I'm not sure, but I keep trying, reading, and listening.

Testimonial I'm loving:

I received this card in the mail and was very moved by what she wrote. It's nice to be seen for what I try to bring to my pateints.

"Gail,

Thank you for being the big hearted person that you are. The healing you have provided me with over the last five years is priceless and you never hesitated to share your expertise so I could further help my mom and grandmother with their aches and pains. Your empathy and kindness are unmatched and I am grateful to have you in my life. Thank you for sharing your talents and being such a source of physical and mental healing in my life. You are such a treasure."

Quote I'm contemplating:

It's suppose to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.

Product I'm trying: Frozen Bananas

I love bananas, Nutso, and blueberries smashed together as a snack. I only eat half a banana which means the rest rots by the next time I want it. This isn't novel or earth shattering, but freezing them has been perfect. I make the mix and bring it to work. It's defrosted by the time I'm ready to eat it. No wasted bananas and I still get my yummy midday snack.

Song I'm enjoying: Wish I Knew You by The Revivalists
