What's My Take on Peptides and GLP-1s?

Product I'm reading about: Peptides

A week doesn't go by without someone asking me about peptides or GLP-1s. I talked with a brilliant friend that owns a compounding pharmacy. She does not sell or distribute either since it is still illegal for compounding pharmacies to do so. She has contracted with a sterile pharmacy that, once legal, she will be able to fill prescriptions because she does believe in their potential benefits. They sound too good to be true, but I'm coming around to believing the hype.

Peptides seem promising, but also potentially dangerous if misused or improperly prescribed. They are gaining attention because they seem to help support healing, muscle growth, immune function, fat loss, skin health, and recovery by working with the body’s natural signaling systems. Some are already well established in medicine, while others are being explored for anti-aging and performance benefits. Many people I've talked to like peptides because they can feel more energy, fat loss, pain reduction, and improved healing.

At the same time, the peptide industry is still full of unknowns. Products sold without a prescription online are done so illegally. They may have inconsistent quality or unidentified ingredients. Possible risks include hormone disruption, digestive issues, swelling, and unwanted side effects. The biggest concern is often not the peptide itself, but where it comes from and what else is in the vial. I talked to a friend who is getting vials of injectable peptides from her hair stylist. She said he is often sold out.

The big concern for me is not whether they work, I believe they could be more beneficial than vitamins. It comes down to sourcing and quality control. Some peptides are produced through licensed pharmacies and regulated manufacturers that follow strict testing standards for purity, sterility, and accurate dosing. Others are sold online, or through hair salons, are loosely regulated companies where there is no real guarantee the product contains what the label claims. And again, they are providing them illegally if sold without a prescription. In some cases, products have been found to contain incorrect dosages, contaminants, or entirely different ingredients. That is why medical supervision and buying from reputable sources matters so much.

Peptides and GLP-1s seems to significantly improve metabolic, cardiovascular, immune system, and liver-related blood tests. There is a new generation of GLP-1 called retatrutide that works on three different hormone factors. For reference, Ozempic works one one and Wagovy works on two. The retatrutide trial results are impressive. It is still in clinical trials and not available legally. This has not stopped some compounding pharmacies from making it available.

I believe in the benefits of peptides and GLP-1s that go way beyond our current research. My oncologist is running a study at the moment on high metastis risk breast cancer patients. The use of GLP-1s has significantly reduced the risk of metastisis in those patients. As a high risk survivor, I will be in line to get a prescription once they are legal. I'm very curious to hear your stories if you are using peptides and/or GLP-1s.

Testimonial I'm loving: Nerve pain

A patient came in after having back surgery and several steroid injections. Pain in his back and in both legs continued to limit his life. He said he was afraid of needles and the pain they might cause. He had severe anxiety when we first got started. I took my time inserting needles and explained everything. He said he may have felt a little better after the session, but wasn't sure. I followed up with him the next day and he reported that he believes he has felt a 50% reduction in pain on one side of his body.
